Breaking: ‘Will Face Criminal Charges’ Prosecutors Announce Fate For Idaho Murder Suspect, ‘Once He Gets Here…’

Once the 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger, suspected of murdering four college students in Idaho, returns to the state, he will face criminal charges related to the murders. 

According to CNN, the murder victims who attended the University of Idaho, were Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kernodle’s boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20.

In their reporting, CNN said the students “were likely asleep when they were each stabbed multiple times in the early hours of November 13,” according to authorities. “Some of the victims had defensive wounds, a coroner has said.”

The Latah County Idaho prosecutor, Bill Thompson, announced that the suspect will be served an arrest warrant when he returns to the Idaho county where the murders took place. 

Kohberger was apprehended in Pennsylvania where he was headed to his family home in the Poconos. He and his father were on a cross-country road trip following the fall semester. 

Kohberger is a graduate student at Washington State University, located less than 10 miles away from the University of Idaho. He is pursuing a doctorate in criminal justice and criminology. 

Local police and the FBI tracked him to Pennsylvania through his vehicle, a white Elantra, which the authorities have in their possession and have begun to process. 

The car was spotted in the vicinity of the victims’ home around the time of the murders. 

The FBI surveilled the Pocono Mountains home belonging to the Kohbergers for four days before making the arrest.

The suspect “appeared before a judge in Pennsylvania on Friday morning. Court documents show the judge ordered Kohberger’s extradition to Idaho where he will face criminal charges,” WPVI-TV reported.

The probable cause affidavit has been filed with the court and remains sealed. There has been no media access to the affidavit. 

“According to the rules of the Idaho Supreme Court, that is sealed until Mr. Kohberger is physically back in Latah County and has been served with the Idaho arrest warrant,” he said.

Monroe County Chief Public Defender Jason LaBar is representing the suspect. He said Kohberger “intends to waive his extradition hearing to expedite his transport to Idaho” and that he “is eager to be exonerated of these charges and looks forward to resolving these matters as promptly as possible.”

The authorities working on the case were on the lookout for the white car believed to be the Elantra Kohberger was driving. In a news conference, the police chief said, “We have found an Elantra.”

He later told ABC News Saturday that Kohberger is believed to be the only suspect in this tragic case. 

“We believe we have our guy, the one that committed these murders,” he said, adding that he does not anticipate any additional arrests.

Kohberger earned a bachelor’s degree from DeSales University in 2020. In a statement following the arrest, the university said, “As a Catholic, Salesian community, we are devastated by this senseless tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families during this difficult time.”
