It will come as no surprise to anybody that Elon Musk is once again in the news. In the aftermath of an already-legendary takeover of Twitter, the whinging from the Left has flowed like a water faucet. In fact, just earlier Elton John announced, in that bombastic and self-important manner that we have started to become fairly accustomed to, is leaving twitter. The reason he gave was the spread of the extraordinarily vague and imprecise term misinformation that a platform dedicated to free speech might leave itself open for. But now, this ethic is spread into the political dimension as well.
It has now been reported by Fox News that:
False, hate speech impressions are actually down by 1/3 for Twitter now vs prior to acquisition @CommunityNotes
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 8, 2022
Schiff spoke on behalf of Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., after they wrote a formal letter to Musk and condemned his leadership, tweeting:
Twitter users roasted Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., for his tweet Thursday “demanding action” from Elon Musk on his claims of rising hate speech, which the CEO denied.
“On Elon Musk’s Twitter:- Slurs against Black people have tripled – Slurs against women are up 33% – Slurs against Jewish people are up 61% – And slurs against gay men are up 58%,” Schiff tweeted. “These numbers are abysmal – and unacceptable. Today, @RepMarkTakano and I are demanding action.”
Fox News then went on to report that:
Musk replied, “False, hate speech impressions are actually down by 1/3 for Twitter now vs prior to acquisition.”
Musk was far from the only user to torch Schiff’s tweet. Many on Twitter slammed Schiff’s credibility, while also debating about the nature of what does or does not count as hate speech.
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton offered his assessment of the situation: “Corrupt congressman abuses office to call for mass censorship using fake stats. Threatens @ElonMusk.”
Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald used Schiff’s tweet as an educational moment for his audience: “Aside from these made-up numbers: do you see how — to Democratic Party politicians — dictating to social media companies what they can and can’t platform, how they must censor, the role Democratic politicians play in all this, is just assumed as normal?”
It was further reported by The Hill that:
Since Musk took over Twitter in a $44 billion acquisition, he has enacted various efforts to promote “free speech” on the platform, such as removing the COVID-19 misinformation policy, cutting key staff involved in content moderation, and re-platforming banned accounts.
The Hill then went on to report that:
Hate speech reportedly soared on Twitter the week after Musk’s purchase in early November. Yoel Roth, then Twitter’s head of trust and safety, said at the time that the company had “reduced impressions” on hateful content.
“We’ve not only mitigated the recent surge in harmful behavior, but have reduced impressions on this content in Search by ~95% relative to even prior baseline levels,” wrote Roth, who resigned from Twitter in November.
Longtime readers of The Raging Patriot will likely be familiar with the antics of Adam Schiff. In fact, we reported back in the middle of July that Schiff criticized the President for his recent trip to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Schiff tweeted out, “If we ever needed a visual reminder of the continuing grip oil-rich autocrats have on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, we got it today. One fist bump is worth a thousand words”.
