Whoopi Goldberg found the conversation, that she started, a little mundane on ABC’s The View recently.
Goldberg brought up a situation posted on Redditt where a man got a significant raise and all of the sudden, his wife suggested that they combine their salaries.
The couple used to split the bills and then spend their own money on themselves. Whoopi posed a question to the other women on the show.
She asked for their thoughts…pool your resources or keep things separate.
Goldberg’s third marriage ended in 1995 so as the co-hosts went on about how they handle finances in their relationships, Whoopi seemed to find the exchange boring.
Sunny Hostin tried to lure Goldberg back into the conversation asking, “Right, Whoopi?” seemingly waking her up!
Joy Behar jumped in and said, “Whoopi checked out an hour ago.”
Goldberg ignored the comment and added her opinion. She said, “If you’re married, you should always have some money that’s yours.”
The View is no stranger to co-host drama. They’ve had co-hosts come and go. Meghan McCain left the show in July of 2021 and revealed some of her thoughts on Whoopi Goldberg in her book, “Bad Republican.”
“The thing about Whoopi … is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table,” she said.
McCain continued, “I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on, and it became more frequent. Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly.”
McCain was only one of two Republicans on the show so she was often the target of the others on the panel.
Even after leaving the show, she continued to be trolled.
Last Valentine’s Day, McCain posted a picture with her husband on Twitter with the caption, “Happy Valentines Day Ben @btdomenech – I love you and am grateful every day for the life we have together.”
She received a bunch of sweet messages but it never ends there. One follower responded, “Does every thought and sentiment need to be on Twitter?”
Joy Behar obnoxiously commented, “Apparently.” Imagine being almost 80 years old and trolling a former colleague on Twitter.
McCain didn’t take it lying down. She posted the message, which has since been deleted adding, “Imagine spending your Valentine’s Day trolling your ex colleague’s tweet about her husband.”
Anyone who has ever seen the show knows how toxic it is. Former co-host Abby Huntsman revealed that she felt the show had an overall toxic work environment.
Whether on the air or behind the scenes, drama is front and center on the show, and backstage clashes have been leaked to local New York City tabloids over the years.
