Jason Miyares, the Republican Attorney General of Virginia, has petitioned the United States Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Virginia joined 21 other states in urging the courts to reject Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban and to uphold the fundamental concept of the court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.

“The [new] Attorney General has reconsidered Virginia’s position in this matter,” Miyares wrote to the justices.

“Virginia presently believes that the Constitution is silent on the question of abortion and that it is thus up to the people of the several states to decide the legal status and regulatory treatment of abortion.” she continued.

Miyares stated that Virginia will join 19 Republican attorneys general and a handful of governors in pushing for states to regulate abortion legislation

“It is Virginia’s opinion that the court’s rulings in Roe and Casey were incorrectly decided,” he said, referencing to the 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which prevented states from imposing an unreasonable restriction on abortion access before viability.

“By allowing the people of the various states to address these problems for themselves, this court should restore judicial neutrality to the abortion debate.” Last month, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley stated that Roe v. Wade is the greatest injustice of our time and that the Supreme Court has the power to remedy it.

Roe v. Wade will be examined after the first day of oral arguments, according to Hawley. Hawley underlined that it would suggest reaching a major milestone.

“One of the primary reasons I became interested in law was because of this. And this is the most horrible injustice we have witnessed in our lifetimes.” said senator Hawley.

“I just have to say that as someone who believes this is one of the worst Supreme Court decisions ever handed down, I think it would be a tremendous moral milestone and remedy a grave injustice,” Hawley said.

The Supreme Court is presently considering a Mississippi statute that would prohibit almost all abortions beyond 15 weeks. During the hearing, Justice Clarence Thomas posed a pertinent question that should have concerned pro-abortion liberals.

“Does a pregnant woman have the right to take drugs and endanger her unborn child?” “Can the state charge the mother with child neglect?” he inquired.

“That’s not what this lawsuit is about,” said the attorney for Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the organization aiming to overturn the statute. “But a woman has a right to make decisions about her body.” Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh might be the case’s decisive votes.
