BREAKING NEWS: HUGE Russian cyberattack hits US over holiday weekend—US says it ‘will retaliate’

President Biden suggested the U.S. will retaliate if Russia is at fault for the recent widespread cyberattacks.

At the beginning of Independence Day weekend, over 200 companies were hit by a mass ransomware attack. IT company Kaseya was intercepted, allowing attackers to access hundreds of companies that use its software. When the attack was investigated by Huntress Labs, a cybersecurity firm, they suspected the Russia-linked REvil ransomware group was to blame. On Saturday, Biden told reporters, “We’re not sure who it is. … But if it is Russia, I told Putin we will respond.”

The President said he has not spoken to Russian President Vladamir Putin since the attack. Last month, Biden and Putin joined in Geneva, Switzerland for a summit meeting. At the time, Putin denied that Russia played any role in the increasingly bolder cyberattacks against the U.S. and even said that the United States was the biggest offender of this accusation. “As far as cybersecurity is concerned, we agreed that we would begin consultations on that issue and I believe that it is extraordinarily important, both sides have to assume certain obligations there.” Putin said.
