California Democrat Congressman Adam Schiff is under scrutiny recently over his actions in colluding with Twitter to censor and silence his opponents.
It also appears that his congressional seat is being threatened.
According to new reports, actor Ben Savage, known for his role as Corey Matthews on the ABC series “Boy Meets World,” is looking to take Schiff’s seat.
Just The News reported:
Federal Election Commission forms filed this week indicate Savage is preparing to mount a run for California’s 30th Congressional District, which Schiff has controlled since 2001.
Schiff has not indicated any plans to retire from that seat, meaning the two could end up squaring off in a primary, though Schiff himself has indicated he is possibly considering a run for U.S. Senate.
Savage previously ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council in 2022.
Savage’s priorities for that campaign included community safety, supporting and promoting local businesses, and fighting to protect the rights of renters.
Savage studied political science at Stanford University, where he graduated in 2004. He also entered for Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, then a Republican, in 2003.
Representatives for Savage told multiple outlets that “he is focused on his upcoming wedding. Ben is still making decisions and always looking for opportunities to give back and serve the community.”
Savage filed on Wednesday as a Democrat. He is engaged to Tessa Angermeier.
California’s 30th District currently encompasses West Hollywood, Burbank, and parts of Pasadena.
The general election for this seat will be held on November 5, 2024.
Schiff also had his eye on Senator Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat, but another Democrat announced her intentions to run for the seat.
Democrat Katie Porter, a representative from California, announced recently that she would seek Feinstein’s seat. Feinstein is 89 and many expect her to retire soon. She has not publicly confirmed if she will seek re-election or retire.
“California needs a warrior in the Senate—to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy. Today, I’m proud to announce my candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2024,” Katie Porter said in her Twitter announcement video.
We’re living through a time of extraordinary change. I’m Katie Porter. Change can be electrifying and exhilarating, but change can also be disruptive — like the constant assault on our democracy and the dangerous imbalance in our economy,” Porter continued.
Will Schiff keep his seat? Will he go for Feinstein’s? Time will tell, but what is certain is the 2024 elections will be full of surprises.
The Democrats are losing quite a few seats, so they are up for grabs. Some politicians are leaving their parties and switching sides or becoming Independent. We can be assured that 2024 will be interesting and exciting.
