Believe it or not, Gavin Newsom is admitting that we do indeed have a border crisis.
With former President Trump’s effective Title 42 policy about to end, the California governor realizes that his state simply can no longer handle the number of immigrants.
California is proud of its sanctuary city. The leaders of the state pat themselves on the back for taking care of illegal immigrants but now they’re facing reality.
The state cannot afford the burden of taking on thousands of migrants.
Newsom spoke out about it this week.
“Just got back from Mexicali, which is on the other side of the border. While I had the opportunity to meet with the governor and meet with some international humanitarian leaders, as well as many migrants from Haiti, from Guatemala, and from parts of Mexico that are waiting for their asylum processing right here at the border.”
The Democrat governor is waking up.
“So we’re here now on the other side in Calexico. And here just to get an understanding and deep understanding of what the world looks like pre-Title 42. It likely is going to look like in a few weeks post-Title 42.”
What is it going to look like?!
Bill Melugin of Fox News has been sharing videos of groups of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of immigrants coming across the border in recent days.
Newsom continued, “The federal government is sending more and more flights, and more and more buses directly here to California because this state is doing what no other state’s doing.
“And that’s absorbing and protecting and preserving our values and advancing them by doing health care screenings, and taking care of folks, and the more we do, the burden is placed disproportionately on us.
The burden is placed on him because he boasted that California is a sanctuary state. Now he wants to whine that they’re at capacity?
“We’re already at capacity at nine of our sites.
“We can’t continue to fund all of these sites because of the budgetary pressures now being placed on this state and the offsetting issues that I have to address.
“The reality is, unless we’re doing what we’re doing, people will end up on the streets.”
The California governor didn’t miss his chance to slam Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for sending planes full of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard last summer.
He said, “I mean, that’s just comedy and tragedy.”
Continuing, Newsom laid out the facts.
“The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working, and it’s about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership.
“I’m saying that as a Democrat.
“I’m not saying that to point fingers.
“I’m saying that as a father, I’m saying that as someone that feels responsible for being part of the solution, and I’m trying to do my best here.”
While everyone wants all people to be treated humanely, the U.S. simply cannot take in this many immigrants and carry the burden of housing them, giving them medical attention, educating them, etc.
Liberals like to live in a fantasy world, but it looks like Newsom and his cronies have been slapped in the face by reality.
