When Bill Gates decided to host an online chat on Reddit where he invited users to ask him anything, it’s likely that he didn’t anticipate questions about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile.

The Microsoft co-founder probably thought he would get away with softball questions as he shared topics like his favorite band, his thoughts on climate change, and his favorite TV show of 2022.

That wasn’t the case. And when questions about his connection to Epstein surfaced, he wouldn’t touch them.

One participant asked, “Why did you continue associating with Jeffrey Epstein after he was convicted of being a pedo? And against your then-wife’s advice and wishes?”

The Reddit user was referring to Epstein’s prior conviction in 2008 when he admitted to “procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute” to a Florida court.

“Why did you funnel donations through Epstein as opposed to publicly donating via your well-known ‘philanthropic’ foundation?”

It became widely known that Gates’ ex-wife, Melinda Gates, was against his association with Epstein. In an interview, Melinda called Epstein “evil personified.”

She told CBS’ Gayle King about her divorce from Bill: “It was many things. But I did not like that he’d had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein. I made that clear to him.”

In talking about the time she met Epstein, Melinda Gates said, I met him “exactly one time because I wanted to see who this man was. And I regretted it from the second I stepped in the door. He was abhorrent. He was evil personified.”

She must have had good instincts about Epstein. She shared that she “had nightmares about it afterward. So my heart breaks for these young women.”

She reminisced about how it all began. “On the day I got married, I never thought I would end up being divorced.”

When things changed, they tried to work it out. “I thought we had worked through some of that,” she shared.

“There just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realized it just wasn’t healthy. And I couldn’t trust what we had.”

Melinda talked about the dark days. “I had a lot of tears for many days. I mean days where I’m literally laying on the floor of the carpet. I certainly was angry. I mean this is painful stuff.”

“And at the end of the day, though, I started on this journey of healing, and I feel like I’m starting to get to the other side.”

Bill Gates’ reaction to his wife’s side of the story? He said, “At the time, I didn’t realize that by having those meetings it would be seen as giving him credibility. You’re almost saying, ‘I forgive that type of behavior,’ or something. So clearly the way it’s seen, I made a huge mistake not understanding that.”

Gates maintains that his meetings with Epstein were part of an effort to secure donations to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He says now that he regrets ever having dinners with Epstein.

Is there more to the Gates-Epstein connection? Will calls to release the Epstein client list ever gain any traction?

The truth will come out someday.
