In February, Walmart made an announcement, according to which, the retail giant will be shutting down its remaining two stores in Portland, Oregon over the surging crime rate.
The increase in crime is the result of anti-police policies from the city’s liberal leaders.
The last two remaining stores are scheduled to shut down on March 24th.
Fox12 reported that the stores are struggling to meet financial expectations because of the increase in theft.
A Walmart spokesperson stated:
“The decision to close these stores was made after a careful review of their overall performance.”
The spokesperson added:
“We consider many factors, including current and projected financial performance, location, population, customer needs, and the proximity of other nearby stores when making these difficult decisions. After we decide to move forward, our focus is on our associates and their transition, which is the case here.”
The closing of the retail stores will likely have a vital impact on the locals.
While talking with Fox12, a local resident of Portland, Amanda Pahl, stated:
“Safeway is the go-to-store if I have to but that’s three times the price I would spend here. What are we going to do? You got to go further, then you have to spend gas money. Might as well pay for it at Safeway at this point.”
On Sunday, GOP Governor from Texas, Greg Abbott, highlighted the difference between red states like Texas and liberal states.
He wrote:
“All Portland Walmart stores to permanently close in late March. “This is what happens when cities refuse to enforce the rule of law.”
Abbott added:
“It allows the mob to take over. Businesses can’t operate in that environment, and people can’t live in it.”
