Bombshell: House Republicans From Tennessee Pass Legislation That Prohibits Kids From Getting Gender Transition Health Care

Tennessee House GOP members have passed a legislation that forbids young kids from getting gender transition healthcare, including surgical procedures, hormone therapies and puberty blockers.

This new legislation also allows young kids, who went through gender transition, to sue their parents.

If the bill gets approved, the medical treatments would have to stop by March 2024 for trangender kids.

Typically, transgender surgical procedures are not carried out on young kids. 

According to the medical guidelines, the cure for gender dysphoria in children usually requires a broad approach such as social support and mental health counseling.

Transgender surgeries and hormone therapy get recommended when the individual becomes mature enough to be able to make serious decisions regarding their own health care.

The American Civil Liberties Union is planning to take legal action against Tennessee if the bill gets passed.

The sponsor of the bill, Rep. William Lamberth, argued that the transition treatments cause irreversible and negative consequences. 

ACLU-TN staff attorney Lucas Cameron-Vaughn stated: 

“All Tennesseans should have access to the healthcare they need to survive and thrive. Gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth is safe, necessary, effective and often life-saving. Legislators are risking trans young people’s health, wellbeing and safety with this dangerous legislation. We urge Governor Lee to veto this overreaching, discriminatory bill, or we will see him in court.”

Rep. Lamberth responded: 

“These treatments and procedures have a lifetime of negative consequences that are irreversible.”

He further noted: 

“The vote on the floor today was extremely strong. We’re going to protect our children mature naturally and give them the love and assistance, mental health treatment, that they need.”
