BLM Co-founder Demands Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to Prioritize the Agenda

Patrisse Cullors is one of the co-founders of Black Lives Matter. On Saturday, she wrote a letter to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris demanding that once they are in the White House they prioritize the BLM agenda. She opened the letter congratulating the two on their presumed win and has requested a meeting to discuss the BLM agenda and find ways to implement it into American society.

Cullors then said that she and so many are happy to see the “Trump era” finally coming to and end, but said that him being out of office isn’t enough. She said his “political exit does not ensure an end to the intolerable conditions faced by Black people in America. A well-thought out, community-driven, fully resourced agenda that addresses the prartuclar challenges faced by Black people must be a top priority.”

She carried on to say that BLM was heavily invested in this election and that because of it Black people were able to win it. “‘Vote and Organize’ became our motto, and our electoral justice efforts reached more than 60 million voters. We want somehting for our vote.”

“We want to be heard and our agenda to be prioritized. We issue these expectations not just because Black people are the most consittent and relaible voters for Democrats, but also because Blacpeople are truly living in crisis in a nation that was ubilt on our sugjugation. Up until this point, the United States has refused to directly reckon with the way it devalues Black people and devastates our lives. This cannot continue. Black people can neither afford to live through the vitriol of a Trump-like Presidency, nor through the indifference of a Democrat-controlled government that refuses to wrestle with its most egregious and damnable shame.”

Part of the BLM agenda is to defund police and redirect that money to to minority communities. While minority community outreach and offering solutions to help those people are so very important, defunding the police won’t help them. These communiteis are alrady so ravaged by crime that taking away the force that stops that crime will only make things worse.

She concluded by saying she looks forwrd to meeting together and beginning the “immediate work of Black liberation” and that they want to be “actively engaged” with the Biden Transition Team.
