The Department of Homeland Security has appointed attorneys for the defendant, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, against his impeachment lawsuit, which will be brought forward by the GOP House members soon.

According to CNN, the DHS has hired a law firm.

As per the three anonymous sources, the Department of Homeland Security has obtained the services of a private law firm to defend Mayorkas in his impeachment lawsuit.

GOP House members have been working to bring up a lawsuit against Mayorkas as they prefer putting an impeachment hearing against the Cabinet secretary, Mayorkas.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated:

“The Department of Homeland Security has retained outside counsel to help ensure the Department’s vital mission is not interrupted by the unprecedented, unjustified, and partisan impeachment efforts by some Members of Congress, who have already taken steps to initiate proceedings.”

They added:

“DHS will continue prioritizing its work to protect our country from terrorism, respond to natural disasters, and secure our borders while responding appropriately to the over 70 Congressional committees and subcommittees that have oversight of DHS.”

It was in 1876, the first time that any Cabinet member was impeached. The impeachment case was filed against the Secretary of War, William Belknap, who was impeached and also eliminated by the Senate.

Last month, GOP Rep. from Texas, Pat Fallon brought forward articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas.

According to the Fox News report:

“The articles of impeachment against Mayorkas for ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ known as House Resolution 8, were introduced by Fallon in the House on Monday and have been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. Last week, Fallon vowed to file impeachment articles against Mayorkas after the Congress was sworn in. The effort from Republicans in the House is one of many that the new GOP majority will take as it works to fight the Biden administration on issues related to immigration and the southern border crisis.”

Last week, Fallon stated:

“Since day one, Secretary Mayorkas’ policies have undermined law enforcement activities at our southern border. From perjuring himself before Congress about maintaining operational control of the border to the infamous ‘whip-gate’ slander against our border patrol agents, Secretary Mayorkas has proven time and time again that he is unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security. His willful actions have eroded our immigration system, undermined border patrol morale, and jeopardized American national security. He has violated the law and it is time for him to go.”

The first article of impeachment blamed Mayorkas for not executing the “Secure the Fence Act of 2006” consistently. This law demands the DHS secretary to “maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States.”

The second article of impeachment accused Mayorkas was “in violation of his constitutional oath, willfully provided perjurious, false, and misleading testimony to Congress.”

The third article of impeachment noted that Mayorkas “publicly and falsely slandered” border patrol agents who were charged and were later cleared of lashing Haitian immigrants in Del Rio, Texas.
