How did this idea of stopping “disinformation” become so mainstream?

Who is the arbiter of truth?

Who gets to decide what is disinformation when we live in a world full of lies?

Two former U.S. presidents are the headliners of conferences on democracy.

Former Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama will offer their insight into the rising threat of authoritarianism and disinformation and how to stop them.

Bush’s conference is hosted by The George W. Bush Institute in partnership with Freedom House and the National Endowment for Democracy.

The conference, entitled The Struggle for Freedom, takes place in Dallas on Wednesday, November 16 where Bush will interview Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Obama’s conference is being held in New York on November 17. His event will target the “biggest challenges democratic institutions face today.”

Ann Coulter found this quite ironic, posting on her Twitter account, “Sounds cool, hope they start with “Saddam has weapons of mass destruction,” then segue to ‘If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.’”

Those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. We have an administration running this country right now that tells lie after lie.

“The border is secure.”

Meanwhile, investigative reporter Bill Melugin shares videos of people crossing the border illegally every day.

“On our watch, for the first time in 10 years, seniors are going to get the biggest increase in their Social Security checks they’ve gotten.”

Even The Washington Post called Biden out for this statement, noting, “the reason Social Security payments are going up is because Social Security benefits, under a law passed in 1972, are adjusted every year to keep pace with inflation.”

Biden repeatedly claimed that Republicans want to end Social Security altogether. The Post also declared that to be false.

Though these conferences are undoubtedly pointed at the opposing party, one needs to look no further than the White House for disinformation.

David J. Kramer, the executive director of the Bush Institute, shared his thoughts saying, “I actually think it’s terrific that we will have these back-to-back conferences.”

“We’re very mindful of what’s happening in the United States, and we have to make sure we stay on a democratic path,” he continued.

The party in power that is in favor of censorship and gun confiscation seems to be the one veering off the democratic path, not the other way around.

Kramer recognizes that we need to support this idea worldwide. He said, “At the same time, we have to help and support others around the world. So we can’t simply fold up our tent and focus on everything at home. We have to focus on both things.”

The idea that the world’s oldest functioning democracy could ever fail used to be unfathomable but with free speech under attack, it’s becoming increasingly worrisome.

If the U.S. falls to communism or socialism, it will not end well for anyone.
