The hits just seem to keep coming for embattled woman’s basketball player Brittney Griner in the after math of her much publicized arrest and imprisonment in Russia for smuggling illegal hash oil into the company. After all of the press, attention, and lip service support emanating from fellow oppressed individuals such as LeBron James, a hammer blow has just been delivered to Griner, courtesy of President Joe Biden and Karine Jean-Pierre, the official White House Spokeswoman.
Well, it is now being reported by The Hill that:
“I have no intention of meeting with him,” Biden said earlier of Putin. “But, for example, if he came to me at the G20 and said, ‘I want to talk about the release of Griner,’ I would meet with him.”
But when he was asked by a reporter today, “You said you would be open to meeting with Vladimir Putin to discuss Brittney Griner. Have you seen any movement on that front?” “Not with Putin,” Biden said.
It gets worse for the WNBA star. Jean-Pierre said Biden will not meet with Putin even to discuss Griner’s case because “Biden believes the Russians need to take the serious offer that we put forward on the table, or make a serious counter-offer to negotiate, but in good faith, Jean-Pierre said before sinking Griner’s hopes, “he has no intention of meeting with Vladimir Putin.”
It was further reported that:
Former Russian Prisoner and American citizen Trevor Reed said:
“Regardless of how you feel about Brittney Griner’s case, that sentence is clearly political.
“There’s no denying that. Once you are convicted in a Russian court, you do have a chance to go to appeals and appeal that decision to another kangaroo court in Moscow.
“So after that trial, you know, depending on Brittney’s decision on whether she wants to appeal or not, she may stay in Moscow at the detention facility that she is already at until her appeals are completed.
It was also reported by Yahoo News that:
The US proposed a prisoner swap for Griner in exchange for Viktor Bout, a convicted Russian arms dealer.
“Considering the fact that the Russian government is considering exchanging her, they may also decide to leave her in Moscow to make it easier for her to be returned to the United States,” Reed said.

So, it has been a rough sequence of events for Griner lately. In fact, we had reported in late September that Brittney Griner got snubbed by her college coach, Kim Mulkey, while the WNBA star sits in a Russian gulag. Griner played for Mulkey at Baylor where they won the national title. But they had a falling out and Mulkey has stayed silent on Griner’s plight.
We further reported on how Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, described how she and Brittney are feeling as the WNBA star remains locked up in a Russian prison. In an interview with Gayle King of CBS Morning, Cherelle talked about Brittney’s emotional state.
