We can all agree that something needs to be done to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. We can all also agree that the Biden Administration is not going to do it.
Our current vice president claims that the border is secure. Most of us can see that is not true.
We’ve seen the videos. We’ve heard about migrants being flown to other states in the middle of the night.
We’ve also seen the frustration of the leaders in border states. While they have started sending some border crossers to sanctuary cities, that is not helping to solve the real problem.
The states’ hands are tied when it comes to enforcing federal immigration laws. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri will introduce a bill to fix that. The bill will allow states to enforce federal immigration law and include the deportation of illegal immigrants today.
Hawley says “If Joe Biden isn’t going to enforce immigration laws why don’t we let the states enforce immigration laws? The State of Texas would love to, the states of Florida, Arizona, they’d love to enforce immigration laws.”
His bill is called the “Empowering States to Deport Illegal Immigrants Act.” He says it’s time to take the gloves off.
“Let’s let them do it, let’s let them secure the border, let’s let them deport illegal immigrants according to our laws. Let’s take the gloves off here, let’s enforce the law, let’s restore order to the border.”
Republicans at both the state and local levels have been trying to come up with ways to deal with this problem.
Some towns in the border states are seeing an influx of people coming over the border in numbers larger than their current population.
Several lawmakers at state and local levels in Texas and Arizona have asked their governors to declare this crisis an “invasion” which would give them greater authority to detain and remove illegals.
Remember that unfinished border wall? Arizona and Texas are working to fill in the gaps. Governor Doug Ducey of Arizona is using welded shipping containers to plug some of the holes in the border wall.
Texas governor Greg Abbott has directed extra law enforcement to the border to try and get a handle on the problem. He authorized the officers to return anyone caught in the country illegally to the U.S. – Mexico border.
The number of migrants who have died while trying to cross the southern border surpassed last year’s total by more than 200 people, bringing the total to almost 750. This data comes from the Department of Homeland Security.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) reports that the illegal immigrants that entered the country since January of 2021 will cost the U.S. taxpayers an extra $20 billion a year on top of the $140 billion we’re paying for the existing illegal immigrants.
We can no longer ignore the crisis at the border. It’s a humanitarian issue. It’s a sex trafficking issue. It’s an illegal drug issue. And it’s a financial issue.
