It was recently reported that New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik is speaking out against Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, saying “it’s time” that she was voted out of office.

Speaking to the Daily Caller, Stefanik also said she endorsed Cheney’s primary opponent, Harriet Hageman, for the upcoming GOP primary in Wyoming.

“It was very clear that Liz Cheney lost the support of her colleagues in Congress by epic proportions just like she’s going to lose the support of her constituents in Wyoming,” Stefanik said.

“You’re not entitled to these positions in elected office,” Stefanik added. “You are elected by your constituents and in the case of leadership, you’re elected by your colleagues.”

“The American people are far more important than Liz Cheney and as an elected official, you should never forget that – that the American people are the most important voices in our constitutional republic,” Stefanik said. “When you forget that, it’s time you’re out of elected office.”

Last week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy revealed that Cheney was not invited to the GOP’s annual retreat.

McCarthy said he believes the best way to move forward is for Republicans to endorse the candidate running against her in order to make “real change.”

“Your conference doesn’t determine whether you’re a Republican or Democrat. You get to determine that. And the way to go about it is exactly what I’m doing. I support Harriet in Wyoming. You’re going to find there’s going to be an event for Harriet next week. No one knows this. There are more than 100 members that are co-sponsoring that,” McCarthy said.

“Part of the reason why Liz isn’t doing her work for Wyoming. She’s not on natural resources. She gave that up. That’s the number one committee for Wyoming, you know, and the voters get to decide whether you get to come to Congress. We get to decide whether you’re going to be in leadership or not. Liz Cheney was not doing the role as conference chair. That’s why she was removed. She doesn’t come to the conference. Adam’s not running again. We disagree with them,” he added.

“You want to defeat them in their election. Adam’s not running again. Liz I don’t believe is focusing on Wyoming. I don’t know of another leader who’s endorsed in a process like this before, and I think that’s where you solve the problem,” McCarthy continued.

Recent polling found that Cheney is underwater big time versus Trump-backed Harriet Hageman in the Wyoming GOP primary.

According to a SoCo Strategies poll conducted to gauge the impact of Trump endorsements, Cheney is 18-points behind Hageman.

The new survey of Republican voters found that Hageman, a GOP activist, and Cheyenne land and water rights attorney, leads Cheney, 38%-18%. State Representative Anthony Bouchard is at 12% and 26% are undecided.
