BIDEN IS NOT WELL: White House DISMISSES concerns about Biden’s health after recent coughing during speeches

The White House dismissed concerns this week that President Joe Biden’s repeated coughing at recent public speaking events is cause for any alarm over the president’s overall health.

Some questions arose about the president’s persistent throat-clearing and coughing at several recent speaking engagements. The symptoms were most prevalent during his address to Congress last Thursday pushing his economic plan.

During a Press Briefing just moments after the speech, NBC News reporter Kelly O’Donnell raised questions about whether the president’s health is a concern White House to Press Secretary Jen Psaki, asking, “Many of us were in the East Room watching the president, we’ve seen him on many occasions where he had a repeated cough. What is the situation with that cough and is it a concern?”

Psaki was quick to respond that the president is in good health, and that there is no reason to believe the coughing is indicative of any bigger health issues. She offered other explanations, saying, “I think there are a range of reasons why we may need to clear our throat or we may have a little light cold, and that’s certainly something that presidents, elected officials, reporters, spokespeople can confront.”

This is not the first time Biden’s health has raised questions. Early in his term, he made several televised addresses during which he cleared his throat and coughed multiple times. It was later revealed that the President suffers from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, more commonly known as GERD.

The condition causes excess stomach acid to build up and enter the esophagus, which can, over time, cause damage to the lining in the esophagus. This can cause irritation that results in coughing and throat-clearing. Psaki added that President Biden has a medical doctor who travels with him and monitors his health daily.
