The United States Supreme Court announced on Monday that it will be hearing oral arguments in a Mississippi challenge to the Roe v. Wade case from 1973 that essentially legalized abortion in America.
Arguments, in this case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health focuses on a 15-week abortion ban in Mississippi that will take place on December 1st.
The law in question will challenge “whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional.”
This has many abortion activists on the left upset as it might be a good possibility that Roe can be overturned this year with a conservative majority in the SCOTUS. Some even demanding Congress codify abortion rights.
Massachusetts Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren who is a big abortion supporter said “This shouldn’t just be up to the Supreme Court. Congress can, and must, pass a law to protect the right to a safe and legal abortion, no matter what Trump’s justices say.” She has previously said on record that “abortion is a human right” and has also demanded government-funded healthcare for abortion seekers.
Anti-Abortion activist Marjorie Dannenfelser who is also the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, said Dobbs marks “a landmark opportunity for the Supreme Court to recognize the right of states to protect unborn children from the horrors of painful late-term abortions.”
President Trump’s nominated justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, are all conservatives and many liberal pro-abortion activists are concerned that they will attempt to overturn Roe.
This comes after the SCOTUS heard the Texas law fetal heartbeat, which was recently enacted as a six-week abortion law in the lone star state. Which has outraged many liberal democrats. President Biden going as far as telling his Justice Department and Health and Human Services to overturn this Texas law and make abortion legal at any stage. Joe Biden is the same person that the media likes to call a “catholic president”
