A new report from The Washington Post suggests America’s top general, The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley told his Chinese counterparts that he would give them a heads up if President Trump decides to attack the communist country during the final months of his presidency. He shared this information with the Chinese General. Li Zuocheng in a series of phone calls. General Milley also reportedly assured the Chinese General that he would prevent this attack in any way possible.
On calls that took place on October 30, 2020, one on January 8, 2021
Milley told the Chinese general that he would “stand between” the attack if it ever took place as mentioned in Washington Post editor Bob Woodward’s book.
“General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable and everything is going to be okay,” Milley told him. “We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you.”
He went as far as to assure that he would warn the Chinese through a backchannel. “General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”
The same day, Milley also made a call to the Admiral overseeing the U.S. Into-Pacific Command and suggested rescheduling military exercises according to this book.
Milley also told senior officers to inform him about any procedures if asked by then-President Trump to launch nuclear weapons against American enemies. This, if true means Milley instructed military officials to follow his orders and ignore President Trump’s official orders.
This behavior has sparked massive outrage and even officials who were previously critical of President Trump are asking Mark Milley to resign. Some even going as far as asking for his arrest.
