USA Today Fact-Checker Accuses Gold Star Families of Lying; Covers It Up With Lip Service Correction

There is a sort of moral anesthesia currently coursing through the veins of the mainstream media, as well as the Democratic party.

Actions or words that would be considered repugnant to moderates and conservatives are considered part-and-parcel tools of engagement by the Left as well as any hack journalist that harnesses the power of words for, let’s say, illicit purposes.

Kyle Becker of Becker News reports that, Gold Star Family members are now being smeared by ‘fact checkers’ who find their account of President Joe Biden checking his watch multiple times during the dignified transfer ceremony on Sunday to be inconvenient to the party’s agenda. Several Gold Star family members have come forward publicly with their testimonials about Biden’s ‘disrespect’ during the solemn affair, which undoubtedly has Democrat-friendly publications scrambling to do damage control on the president’s behalf as his poll numbers continue to slide.

It seems that the current purveyor of this anesthesia comes to us in the risible and unfortunate form of USA Today “fact checker” Daniel Funke.

Becker expounds on the issue by further reporting that on “… Wednesday, the USA Today published a misleading ‘fact check‘ on the event, written by Daniel Funke. The ‘fact checker’ says that he is an alum of Politifact and Poynter, while asking people to send him tips on ‘hoaxes.’ Unfortunately, Funke is involved in spreading a few hoaxes himself. The fact checker finished off his ‘fact check’ commentary on Twitter by insinuating that the Gold Star families were lying.

All this drama amounted to a correction and clarification in USA Today after the fact-checker himself was fact checked (which may lead to a larger discussion about the utility of “fact checkers” at all) which read: This story was updated Sept. 2 to note that Biden checked his watch multiple times at the dignified transfer event, including during the ceremony itself. The rating on this claim has been changed from partly false to missing context.
