The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) allegedly found scant evidence that the demonstrations at the US Capitol in January were coordinated.
Throughout the investigation, the FBI arrested nearly 600 Americans involved or simply present on Capitol grounds during January 6th. However, the speculation that former President Trump’s supporters and activist groups colluded in organizing the demonstration in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election proved to be false.
“Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases. Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages,” said a former senior law enforcement official with inside knowledge of the FBI’s findings.
The claims may lessen the charges and sentences of individuals currently arrested for their involvement. The FBI’s conclusion may impact the ongoing Congressional investigation led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Few Republicans are supporting Congress’ efforts relating to January 6th, and Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger were selected as part of the committee.
