During the Trump administration, a new group was formed called the Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau (CCR).
Its sole purpose: provide “aviation, logistics, and medical support capabilities for the Department’s operational bureaus, thereby enhancing the secretary’s ability to protect American citizens overseas in connection with overseas evacuations in the aftermath of a natural or man-made disaster,” said Fox News.
In essence, it provided protections for Americans in need of evacuation from overseas locations.
A memo from the Department of State, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, shows that the Biden Administration gave the greenlight to dismantle the bureau and discontinue the efforts it existed to perform.
“The Trump-era CCR would have acted as a clearinghouse to coordinate the State Department’s response to an overseas emergency situation, such as the one unfolding currently in Afghanistan, according to information about the bureau contained in the October congressional notification,” reported the Free Beacon.
Now, we have a press secretary who will not commit a response that indicates that the US will stop at nothing to ensure the safe extraction of all Americans from the volatile nation. Similarly, the Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin has stated that the military does not have the capability to evacuate the number of US citizens anticipated to still be in country.
As we reported yesterday, the State Department told Americans in Afghanistan that they could not guarantee “safe passage” to the airport.
“The United States Government cannot ensure safe passage to the Hamid Karzai International Airport,” the State Department said in a security alert.
While a current State Department spokesperson told media sources that the bureau was not abolished because it never officially existed, numerous sources shared with the Beacon that it was indeed operational, and that its mission was to aid in situations exactly like this one.
The President continues to claim that they had no way of knowing that the collapse of Afghanistan would happen so quickly. However, around the same time he gave the thumbs up to dismantle the Trump era efforts, Biden’s Intelligence community leaders were warning that the Taliban could retake the nation in a matter of days and that the government would collapse quickly.
Sadly, it was a warning that no one at the White House or Pentagon heeded.
When asked by reporters about Intel’s conclusion of a quick collapse, he simply responded with, “No. They did not conclude that.”
What do you think? Did the current administration knowingly turn its back on Americans, or was this all just part of the risks of doing business in foreign countries?
