According to multiple sources, Andrew Cuomo will be resigning from his role as governor of New York. He was previously planning to run for a fourth term.
After numerous calls from leadership in both parties, to include the President of the United States, Cuomo announced today that he will be walking away from his office in 14 days, leaving Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat to finish out his term. She will be the first female governor in the state’s history.
“And I think that given the circumstances the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to government, and therefore that is what I’ll do, because I work for you, and doing the right thing, is doing the right thing for you,” Cuomo said, as he continues to claim his innocence in the claims he sexual harassed 11 different women.
The soon-to-be former governor referred to the allegations against him as purely political.
“This is about politics, and our political system today is too often driven by extremes,” Cuomo said.
To the women who made these allegations, this is more than just politics. Tot he families of the thousands of elderly people who died in nursing homes due to Cuomo’s policies, this is more than just politics.
