John McAfee reportedly had suicide note in pocket when found dead, though evidence shows it could have been planted

New reports state that technology pioneer John McAfee wrote a suicide note and stashed it in this pocket before his apparent suicide.

A source close to the investigation into McAfee’s death told the Associated Press that a suicide note was recovered, but did not share the details of the note. According to McAfee’s lawyer, Javier Villalba, the family was not informed of such information. The day before his death, Spain’s National Court agreed to McAfee’s extradition to the US upon over $4 million in tax evasion. His wife, Janice McAfee, said “His last words to me were ‘I love you and I will call you in the evening.’ Those words are not words of somebody who is suicidal.”

Speculation around the death of McAfee emerged after previous social media posts claiming he would never commit suicide emerged. FBA previously reported a Tweet from 2019 wherein “McAfee appeared to show off a tattoo reading “whackd” as he accused US officials of threatening him. “Getting subtle messages from U.S. officials saying, in effect: ‘We’re coming for you McAfee! We’re going to kill yourself’,” he wrote. “I got a tattoo today just in case. If I suicide myself, I didn’t. I was whackd. Check my right arm.”
