Biden Sued By Texas AG

The start to President Biden’s term has been action-packed.  From many of executive orders to moving into the White House, Biden has had a lot going on.  Not all of it is good, however.  Rep. Marjorie Greene has already drawn up articles of impeachment against Biden and now the state of Texas is suing him.

“Biden this week ordered a freeze on most deportations from the interior of the United States, saying his administration wants to reassess the operations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)…” (Washington Post).

Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, moved forward with a lawsuit against the Biden administration on Friday.  He is looking to stop Biden’s 100-day halt on deportations.  Paxton believes that President Biden’s decision goes against the agreement that the state of Texas has with the Department of Homeland Security.  The agreement requires the DHS to alert the state about six months prior to enacting changes in immigration policies (Washington Post).

Paxton has aired his concerns for the people of Texas by saying, “Failure to properly enforce the law will directly and immediately endanger our citizens and law enforcement personnel” (ABC).  U.S. District judge Drew Tipton is set to hear the case in Texas.  He was appointed by President Trump (ABC).

President Biden recently signed an executive order to temporarily halt the construction of the border wall as well.  The border wall, one of Trump’s biggest campaign promises, is over 450 miles long.  Biden does not want to keep the construction of the wall going.  “Biden…gave his administration two months to determine how much it would cost to cancel contracts and whether money could be spent elsewhere” (Spagat).

In a proclamation regarding the border wall, Biden says, “It shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall.” The contractors that have been building the border wall will cease operations (Alvarez).
