Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi gives a press conference every week. During this weeks’ conference a reporter asked, “Do you think it’s time to invoke the 25th amendment?” She responded, “Tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow-come here tomorrow. We’re going to be talking about the 25th amendment.”
She didn’t elaborate on what she meant by “talking about the 25th amendment” but later said, “The president is, shall we say, in an altered state right now. I don’t know how to answer for that behavior. There are those who say when you are on steroids or have COVID-19, there may be some impairment of judgement.” But who said that? Where did she get this information from? If you’re going to make a statement like that, you need to have the facts to back you up immediately.
But President Trump said that he’s been feeling great and “I don’t think I am contagious at all. I stand very far away from everybody, whether I was or not, I wouldn’t, I still wouldn’t go to a rally if contagious.” He seems to be doing very well and no action has indicated judgement impairment.
The 25th amendment outlines the presidential succession of power if the President passes away, is incapacitated, or deemed incapable to perform his duties. The Constitution states in Section 3:
Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.
Since even before President Trump took office in 2017, all of the anti-Trumpers have propelled the possibility of invoking the 25th amendment to remove Trump from his Presidential office. They tried impeaching him last year which the Senate denied, so it’s no surprise that they would try this route too.
Democrats are desperate to do whatever they can to make sure the Presidential seat turns blue this election. Just recently, Nancy Pelosi has talked about the potential for the election to be decided by Congress, which is highly unlikely. But she even joked at the possibility of her becoming President through this whole fiasco. Nancy has mentioned they “have arrows in their quiver” making it very clear they will stop at nothing to get a Democrat in the White House.
